AMA Superbike: Kawasaki Racing Team Defies The Odds At Road America June 5, 2006
Kawasaki Racing Team rider, Tommy Hayden, maintained a consistent battle throughout the weekend as AMA Superbike racing returned to Road America Raceway in Elkhart Lake, Wis. When racing got underway on Saturday, Hayden started the first 16-lap Superbike race in seventh and held a consistent pace with the rest of the field throughout the duration of the feature. Hayden also contended in the second Superbike race on Sunday and fared slightly better by running in fifth for the first six laps before the race was red flagged due to an oil-down on the track. Once the race was restarted Hayden was jostled back into seventh and slipped one position to eventually finish in eighth place aboard his ZX-10R.
Tommy’s younger brother, Roger Hayden, did not contend in Superbike this weekend since he is still recuperating from a broken right tibia and fibula which he sustained during a crash in April. He did, however, decide to race in Supersport on Sunday and defied the odds aboard his Kawasaki ZX™-6RR to finish fourth. Attack Kawasaki rider, Damon Buckmaster, finished in seventh and his teammate, Ben Attard, crossed the stripe in tenth. Team Green rider, Jessica Zalusky, the sole female competitor in AMA Supersport competition, started on the back of the grid and despite some fierce competition finished 37th out of 43 entries.
In AMA Superstock Action, Attard and Buckmaster both put in strong rides aboard their Kawasaki ZX-10Rs. Buckmaster finished in eighth while Attard endured a difficult start and maintained his position to finish 15th. Zalusky also contended in the Formula Xtreme event on Saturday and held her ground to finish 21st aboard her ZX-6RR.
Racing resumes when the teams head to Miller Motorsports Park in Tooele, Utah, June 1618, for a Superbike doubleheader.
