BSB: Airwaves Ducati compete in bike race of slower kind August 31, 2006

Whilst the Airwaves Ducati riders Gregorio Lavilla and Leon Haslam were preparing for the fast and furious racing on Bank Holiday Monday at Cadwell Park, one of the team technicians competed in a bike race of a slower kind also taking place at the weekend.

Dave Gibson, one of Leon Haslam’s technicians, took part in the inaugural Charity BSB Cycle Race on the evening of Sunday 27th August on behalf of the Airwaves Ducati team. The 3 mile race was in aid of the Chris Jones Memorial Fund which was set up in memory to the young rider who tragically lost his life at Cadwell Park a year ago. The funds raised will go towards a mobile X-Ray facility to be used by the BSB series medics throughout the season.

The Airwaves Ducati team was keen to support the event with team sponsors donating £1,100 to the Chris Jones Memorial fund to show their support of such a good cause.

In the three lap sprint around the Woodland Circuit Dave, who has been with GSE Racing for 3 years, came 3rd and being a very keen competitive cyclist in his own time he was pleased with his performance saying, “Obviously I am happy to get on the podium but if I am honest I would have liked to be higher up than 3rd! It was a fun event to be involved in and I am pleased to have competed on behalf of the Airwaves Ducati team for such a good cause; I think I will have to train a bit harder for next year!”
