BSB: Top Ten for Compton at Oulton Superstock May 10, 2007
Dijon Compton secured his first top ten position this weekend at Oulton Park in the tough Metzeler Superstock Cup. The 28-year-old from Huddersfield worked hard all weekend and only the changing weather conditions on race day let him down. After qualifying on the front row in second place he was keen and eager to finish the race high up on the tables, which he did by securing a strong ninth place overall.
The weather turned for the 12-lap race on Monday and after a number of restarts Compton choose to run a wet front and dry rear. With the track still very damp he was unable to get the grip he needed off the start and fell down the field to 11th place after the first lap. With the track only drying in the later stages of the race Compton was unable to make up the ground he had lost. Setting the fifth fastest lap of the race on lap 11 of the 12-lap race, he proved he can run fast times and giving the right circumstances will be able to run up at the front of the pack.
A satisfied Compton said “We made some drastic changes to the bike before the weekend which made a huge difference when we arrived to Oulton, instead of starting further down the field and having only the qualifying sessions to sort it out I felt more on an even playing field and was running in the top ten from the start. We seemed to have cured the chatter problems that I have been suffering with up to now and hopefully we can continue to get more top ten results as the season progresses.
We also changed to Brembo brake pads this weekend and they were fantastic, they worked brilliantly and helped me get more feeling with the bike and more confidence on the brakes. I was ninth in first practice on Saturday and we made a couple of changes on Saturday night which gained me a second instantly on Sunday. We made some massive steps forward this weekend and now I’m really looking forward to the rest of the races, I feel more confident and able to ride the bike to how I like it now.”
The next race is at the super fast Snetterton Circuit on the 20th May.
