Parts Unlimited Ducati’s Neil Hodgson fought one of the closest and most exciting battles of the 2006 season on Sunday, trying his best to earn a spot on the podium in the AMA Superbike race at Road Atlanta. Neil came up just 0.098 short of a rostrum finish as he and Aaron Yates raced for third position coming down the hill on the last lap at the Georgia track. Ben Bostrom was seventh on his Ducati 999 as he improved one spot on the final lap of the 25-lap race.

Kawasaki Racing Team rider, Tommy Hayden, put forth a determined effort as AMA Superbike racing came to Road Atlanta Raceway in Braselton, Ga., this weekend. Tommy qualified in fifth which was just behind his younger brother, Roger, who qualified on the outside of the front row in fourth. As the green flag dropped on Saturday’s Superbike feature Tommy got the best jump off the grid by running in seventh as Roger was shuffled back into 11th. AMA Superbike: Mladin and Suzuki Dominate and Win at Atlanta

Team Yoshimura Suzuki dominated today’s AMA Superbike Championship penultimate round at Road Atlanta and are now assured of the 2006 title ­ but it all comes down to the final round next month between today’s winner Mat Mladin and team mate and series leader Ben Spies.

Mladin won his fourth Superbike race in a row from Spies with Aaron Yates third ­ the same result as yesterday ­ but with just 20 points between first and second, the final round at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course on October 1st will be an exciting showdown for the GSX-R1000-mounted team.

Neil Hodgson and Ben Bostrom of the Parts Unlimited Ducati Team will race the AMA Superbike doubleheader at Virginia International Raceway this weekend. The experienced Ducati 999 pilots will compete against the rest of the AMA Superbike field at the 2.25-mile (3.22-kilometer) circuit in Saturday and Sunday’s National Championship races. Team Yoshimura Suzuki’s Ben Spies won today’s AMA Superbike Championship race at the brand new Miller Motorsports Park in Utah and extended his series lead ahead of team mate Mat Mladin.

The young Texan came out tops in an exciting battle with Mladin, Ben Bostrom (Ducati) and Jake Zemke (Honda), who crashed in the closing stages of the race.

Parts Unlimited Ducati’s Neil Hodgson rallied to finish fourth on his Ducati 999 at Road America and teammate Ben Bostrom completed Sunday’s 16-lap race in seventh place. The race was red-flagged on lap six and restarted, setting the stage for a late race showdown.
