Ducati North America and Ducati Corse today announce that their participation in the AMA Superbike Championship with a factory team will cease at the end of the 2006 season.

Kawasaki Racing Team rider, Tommy Hayden, endured a frustrating turn of events as AMA Superbike racing came to Virginia International Raceway in Alton, Va., this weekend. Tommy and his younger brother, Roger, qualified eighth and ninth respectively, which ironically enough, is where each Hayden finished the first 28-lap feature on Saturday.

Yoshimura Suzuki’s AMA Superbike Champion Mat Mladin completed a clean sweep of the AMA Superbike double-header at Alton, Virginia today while team mate Aaron Yates picked up his first Superbike podium of the year with a second-place finish. 

Championship leader Ben Spies, racing with a fractured right hand, brought home a strong fourth place and maintained his points lead.

Parts Unlimited Ducati’s Neil Hodgson and Ben Bostrom faced a challenging day at Virginia International Raceway on Sunday, with Hodgson crashing while charging to the front and Ben Bostrom finishing in the top six on his Ducati 999 once again after a tough race-long battle for position.

Hodgson suffered a lowside crash while running in third position on lap two. US Superbike: Kawaski’s Hayden returns to Superbike action July 19, 2006

Kawasaki Racing Team rider, Roger Hayden, plans to return to AMA Superbike racing July 22, at Laguna Seca in Monterey, Calif., during the upcoming Superbike doubleheader. Hayden, 23, from Owensboro, Ky., sustained a broken right Tibia and Fibula during a crash while contending in Superbike at Barber Motorsports Park in April. Despite the injury, Hayden only missed one event at California Speedway in Fontana, Calif., and continued to run in the AMA Supersport category after surgery to repair the damaged limb.
