California Tops Nation in Motorcycle Thefts

The National Insurance Crime Bureau today announced the top ten states for motorcycle thefts in 2005. They are, with theft totals in parentheses, as follows:

1. California (9,110)
2. Florida (6,324)
3. Texas (5,755)
4. North Carolina (3,053)
5. Ohio (2,573)
6. Arizona (2,464)
7. New York (2,195)
8. Indiana (2,186)
9. Georgia (2,159)
10. Pennsylvania (2,021)

Nationally, 70,613 motorcycles were stolen in 2005 which is a slight decrease from the 71,108 stolen in 2004. This represents a loss of over $434 million to motorcycle owners and the insurance industry.

British Superstock: Roberts on Winning Form

Young Australian Brendan Roberts once again dominated proceedings at the weekend, 21st - 23rd July at Oulton Park. Roberts took his fifth race win of the season in the ultra competitive National Superstock Championship. US Formula Xtreme: Buell XBRR cracks top ten at Laguna Seca

Jeremy McWilliams, riding a Buell XBRR for Warr’s of London Harley-Davidson/Buell (Great Britain) and Buell Motorcycle Company, finished eighth in the AMA Formula Xtreme race at round seven of the AMA Superbike Championship at Mazda Raceway Laguna Seca.

For the second consecutive weekend Jared Mees made a sharp climb up the points ladder in AMA Ford Quality Checked Flat Track Twins championship series. Mees led the way for the Screamin’ Eagle Wrecking Crew Saturday, finishing in second place at the Darke County Fairgrounds in Greenville, Ohio.

US Superbike: Ducati’s Hodgson earns Laguna Seca points

Neil Hodgson earned a strong third place in Saturday’s AMA Superbike race at Laguna Seca, producing a podium finish in front of the large crowd assembled for the US Grand Prix weekend. Ducati 999-mounted Hodgson charged through the field in the California heat, moving his way through a fierce pack of Superbike riders. Hodgson rose from sixth place in the early stages to challenge for second place in the 28-lap event.
