SBK: Kagayama claims first double at Brno July 25, 2006

Team Alstare Suzuki Corona Extra rider Yukio Kagayama took his first ever World Superbike double victory at Brno in the Czech Republic today.

In race one he stalked leader James Toseland (Honda) for 14 laps before making his move, and from them on in, he was never headed, taking the chequered flag by nearly four seconds.

Michel Fabrizio (Honda) took third after passing both Noriyuki Haga and Yukio’s team mate Troy Corser in the final two laps: Reigning World Champion Corser suffered grip problems throughout the 20-lapper but still managed to finish fifth just behind Haga.

Kagayama had to work much harder in …

BSB: Byrne strong at Oulton Park

Rizla Suzuki’s Shane ‘Shakey’ Byrne took hard-earned fourth and fifth place finishes in today’s double-header ninth round of the Bennetts British Superbike Championship at a sun-drenched Oulton Park in Cheshire.

Byrne found it difficult to make the most of his fifth place grid position from the start in both races before fighting his way through to dice for the podium places. His early efforts to pass slower riders left him with just too much of a deficit to make up and while matching the leaders’ lap times he couldn’t catch them.

Steve Plater, standing in for the injured James Haydon, outperformed his …

MotoGP: Kawasaki search for Set-Up at Laguna Seca July 23, 2006

Kawasaki’s Shinya Nakano was left both disappointed and frustrated with his 16th place finish in today’s second free practice session at Laguna Seca, after struggling to find a set-up on his Ninja ZX-RR to suit the characteristics of the technically demanding 3.61 km circuit.

The 28-year-old Japanese rider complained throughout both sessions that his Ninja ZX-RR was difficult to turn into the corners, particularly at the infamous Laguna Seca Corkscrew, and at the critical final turn that leads onto Laguna’s only straight.

This tendency for his Ninja ZX-RR to understeer through the turns, coupled with stability problems under braking, left Nakano lacking …

“The track is much safer now, that’s the good point. The new surface is slippery, though new surfaces are always slippery so I’m sure it will get better over the weekend. It’s also really bumpy, I thought it would be smoother than before but it’s not. It’s especially bad coming out of the Corkscrew, but it’s like that for everyone. Our bike doesn’t like bumps too much, …
