What sets the 1098 S apart from the standard 1098?
The 1098 S comes with fully adjustable Öhlins FG511 forks, an Öhlins 46PRC rear shock and an Öhlins adjustable steering damper. In addition, the “S” comes with forged and machined Marchesini wheels which reduced unsprung weight by 4lbs-resulting in decreased inertia and a lighter, quicker handling motorcycle. Also included on the “S” are a carbon fiber front fender and the Ducati Data Analyzer (DDA).

The 1098 S Tricolore comes standard with a full 70mm Termignoni 2-1-2 Exhaust System and the Drudi Performance Tricolore paint scheme.

The 1098 S and the 1098 S Tricolore come with the DDA as standard equipment. The DDA is not included with the standard 1098, but it is available as a Ducati Performance accessory (Part # 28620401A, MSRP - $299).
Why did Ducati return to a single sided swingarm (SSS) configuration?
The goal in creating the 1098 was to improve all design aspects-technological and stylistic. The SSS on the 1098 meets both of these requirements. Not only is it beautiful, it delivers improved performance over the double sided swingarm on our previous generation Superbike. The 1098 SSS is both lighter and more torsionally rigid due to its innovative combination of sheet aluminum and gravity cast elements.
Why does the owner’s manual available online list 154hp when other sources are listing 160hp?
The horsepower ratings listed in the owner’s manual are used for homologation and represent the horsepower to the rear wheel. The actual horsepower to the countershaft is 160.
What is the availability of Ducati Performance Parts-specifically carbon fiber upgrades and Termignoni exhausts?
We are currently fulfilling dealers’ orders placed under the 1098 accessory campaign. For carbon fiber bodywork orders, we will begin fulfillment at the end of February. For exhaust systems, we have already begun shipment and expect to fulfill all orders by the end of March.
Is there a Racer Order Program or Employee Purchase Program for the 1098?
Due to demand currently exceeding our on-hand availability, we will not be able to honor any Race Order Program or Employee Purchase Program requests until we fill all pre-sold dealer orders.
What are Ducati’s racing plans for WSB and AMA Superbike?
We saw a need to increase the displacement of our Superbike engine to be more competitive on the track. However, the current displacement rules for both World Superbike and AMA Superbike prevent us from racing the 1098 at this time. We are a racing company and our desire is to race the 1098; we are hopeful that rule changes for 2008 will allow us that opportunity.
