Rally of Sardinia: Marc Coma Wins Third Stage May 10, 2006
The World Champion Marc Coma (KTM, Repsol Team) won the third stage, Cagliari-Gavoi, 273 km, and he’s again the leader of the Rally di Sardegna.
He dethroned the French David Casteu (KTM), who just yesterday had taken the leading away form him. At the end of today’s two specials, according to the first officious classification, the world champion and winner of the Dakar 2006 and of the Sardegna 2005, managed to leave Casteu more than two minutes behind. Great perfomance for the Italians, too. Second place in the stage for Paolo Ceci (Aprilia, Team Giofil).
Fourth place for the always determined Matteo Graziani from Il Team, managed by Enzo Campione, who has reached an excellent third place. Then followed Francisco Renato López Contardo (Chile), whose race is followed with attention by the Chilean sport press.
Always among the the Italians an old acquaintance of the great rallies, the good old Fabio Fasola, winner of the dated 1988 edition of the Rally di Sardegna. With a perfect tecnique he got the fifth time of the day.
Tomorrow is the day of the fourth stage, Gavoi-Gavoi, 158 km with a trail entirely in Barbagia in the province of Nuoro, the ideal place for variety and beauty for a stage of the rally. Departure at 8.30 am from Hotel Taloro on the lake of Gusana where the entire carovan has its accommodation. The caravan will then move to the sea of Tortolì crossing the Gennargentu between Barbagia and Ogliastra. Assistance in Sorgono in the yard of ex Railways where the parc will be open to the public and followers who will have the chance to see and greet the protagonists of this World Championship which will cross the whole of Barbagia.
General Classification: Coma in the lead before Matteo Graziani; third place for Lopez Contardo Francisco, fourth place for David Casteu and fifth for Paolo Ceci.
