SBK: PSG-1 Kawasaki Riders Improve times at day two January 16, 2007

Both Fonsi Nieto (PSG-1 Kawasaki Corse) and Regis Laconi (PSG-1 Kawasaki Corse) made great improvements on their lap times today at Phillip Island, with Laconi setting a best of 1′32.6 and Nieto 1′32.7. Laconi improved his time despite a high-speed crash while evaluating the performance or rear tyres, and both riders set consistently fast laps in their longer runs.

Troy Bayliss once more upped the fastest lap, by setting a 1′31.00 in the cooler conditions of the morning session.

REGIS LACONI: 6th 1′32.6:

“I am happy with the progress we made today and I did a lot of laps inside the 1’32s, with a best of 1′32.6. That’s a second faster than yesterday so I am happy with that. The bike feels better than yesterday and I could have maybe gone even faster except that I could not get round the two slow corners as well as the other ones. And when I made a good lap in the fast corners I made a little mistake in the others. I had a really big crash this morning, at 240kmph at Hayshed. I had tried out a big tyre on the rear, and the front had pushed on me a bit, so then I went back to a 190 rear. Maybe the front was too old at that time, and that contributed to the crash. I used a lot of new tyres today and I think we can go even faster again tomorrow.’

FONSI NIETO: 8th 1′32.7:

“Things were much better today, and my physical condition is improved. Yesterday I just felt sick. We worked hard and got through all the new parts we had to try out, including suspension a new rear swingarm. I did 12 laps all in the 1’33s so that is a good pace. We didn’t work our way through as many tyres as we expected, but we will do that tomorrow.”
