SBK: Walker Leads Race Two For Kawasaki Corse May 31, 2006

Chris Walker used obvious his pace at his local circuit to score sixth and eighth places in the 28-lap Silverstone races, but ran confidently in the lead for a time during race two, slowly dropping through the field as other riders picked up places.

It was a more disappointing weekend of work for the other team riders, with Regis Laconi struggling against chatter in race two, after scoring a fine seventh in race one.

The luckless Fonsi Nieto was taken out in the first race, in a four-rider spill, and in the race restart he felt dizzy, having bashed his head hard on the tarmac. He nonetheless stuck at the task to score championship points in both races.

CHRIS WALKER: 6th & 8th 51 Points, 10th Overall:
“The bike was so good today but we still didn’t have quite enough to get on the rostrum. But no complaints about the bike, it was superb in qualifying and the race, and hopefully it is a sign of things to come. It was great to lead for a couple of laps.”

REGIS LACONI: 7th & 14th 42 Points, 14th Overall:
“I had a big problem with chattering in the second race and some problems with the gearbox so that affected my performance. I’m not completely happy because I wanted to make an even better race than the first one.”

FONSI NIETO: 11th & 10th 48 Points, 11th Overall:
“I was dizzy from hitting my head in the first race. This is the second time I have been taken out in turn one, but it is my own fault for qualifying badly. In SBK you have to qualify well to get away from the crazy riders. On the restart I had to use another bike and we changed the engine for the second race again.”

SUPERSTOCK 1000 FIM CUP

SACCHETTI RECOVERS FROM QUALIFYING WOES TO TAKE 8th

PSG-1 Kawasaki Corse Superstock rider Denis Sacchetti rode at full pace throughout the 11-lap Superstock race, but struggled to get into contention after he got tangled up with two others on consecutive laps. He was thus unable to use the slipstream of other riders to make progress to the leading groups and had to settle for seventh, at the head of a five-rider group.

DENIS SACCHETTI: 8th 27 Points, 7th Overall:
After a disappointing grid placing, Denis Sacchetti rode with aggression and skill to score an eighth place finish, finding it impossible to overcome the disadvantage of a fourth row start. He had to fight for every position in the final laps, and scored eight championship points. “I started not so well and when I took the lead of the second group I tried to cancel the gap to the leaders. But the others in front of me were too far. So I had a battle with five other riders until the last lap and I finished eighth. If I look at the situation of yesterday, after the official practice, I’m satisfied - because I took some important points for the championship.”
