Additional details will be revealed today at a press conference to be held at Road America in advance of this weekend’s combined AMA Superbike Championship and AMA Supermoto Championship events.

“We’re thrilled to add this event to the AMA Supermoto Championship calendar,” said Joel Grover, AMA Director of Supermoto. “We’ve been working on this event for quite a while now and are happy that is has come together. We’re looking forward to showcasing AMA Supermoto competition to fans of Champ Car.”

Grover feels the added exposure will be beneficial to the sport. “AMA Supermoto is still relatively young and any opportunity to expand our fan base is welcome. The Champ Car race at Road America is a high profile event so it will certainly benefit our series. Plus, AMA Supermoto adds value to the fans in that it provides them with an additional activity during the race weekend.”

Aprilia will be the event sponsor and the race will be called the Aprilia Supermoto Shootout round of the AMA Supermoto Championship presented by Parts Unlimited.

The second Road America event will be added to the existing, eight-event schedule. The series kicked off on April 29 at California Speedway and is set to conclude at the Nov. 4 series finale at the historic Queen Mary in Long Beach, Calif.

Multi-time AMA Motocross and AMA Supercross champion Doug Henry holds the early season AMA Supermoto class points lead riding for Graves Motorsports Yamaha. The Hot Wheels Supermoto Lites class lead is held by Cassidy Anderson while Ben Carlson enjoys the 70/30 Racing Supermoto Unlimited class lead.
